FYN Principle #7 - Recycle

At least 45% of household waste can be composted; every day we throw away many valuable things that could be used to benefit our yards. Composting is a simple, cost-effective method of converting “wastes” into a highly desirable product. You can purchase an Earth Machine Composter for $45.50 (payable by check only) at the Mid-County Mini Transfer & Recycling Station at 19675 Kenilworth Boulevard, Port Charlotte Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm.

Adding compost can:

  • Improve soil structure, texture and aeration.

  • Increase the water holding capacity of soil.

  • Help loosen compacted soils.

  • Promote soil fertility and stimulate root development.

  • Create a favorable environment for nature’s “soil builders,” microorganisms, earthworms and insects.
